PGC offers in-depth eight-week classes for beginners who are ready to take the plunge into a longer class. Unless otherwise noted, classes meet for eight weeks in three-hour sessions.
Students will be introduced to the art of kiln casting through the creation of small objects including sculptures and non-functional vessels out of glass using a variety of mold making and kiln casting techniques. This class will cover constructing models, making refractory molds, preparing the glass, firing the molds in kilns and resolving castings into finished works of art. No glass working experience required.
Warm Shop Open Studio Friday 2 - 4 pm
Fridays are open studio time for students currently enrolled in a fusing class or anyone who has taken a fusing class within the last year. Time can be booked on a week-to-week basis but must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. The cost for open studio is $20 for half a kiln. A limited amount of scrap glass will be available for use as accent color, but no frits, powders, or stringers will be available. Students are welcome to bring their own to use or purchase them from PGC. Shop tools and equipment will be available for students to use. A studio monitor will be available to answer questions and to assure the kiln is properly loaded and fired. Each week there will be a different fuse program. Students should plan projects accordingly. Call Brian at 412-365-2145 x 204 to schedule your rental or for questions.
