July 28 - August 1
Level: Intermediate
Hot Shop
The premise of this class is for students to develop and utilize their understanding of hot shop techniques along with the inclusion of neon and light. This course will educate students on how to fill objects made in the hot shop with inert gasses (neon) and move toward the use of glass as a multi-step, multi-media process. The basic foundation will focus on the creation of blown glass forms that will be combined with neon with the potential for inclusion in larger sculptural works. Student's will illuminate forms made in the hot shop and develop a broader understanding of the technical aspects of filling blown forms with gas. We will use traditional glass blowing techniques, basic blown form sculpting and blow molds. The class will include a basic understanding and practical application of the neon process. Through demos and discussion students will explore the potential of the collaborative process. A strong emphasis will be on problem solving, teamwork and cooperation.
