August 4 - 8
Level: Intermediate
Hot Shop
Scott Darlington is the head of the glass department at Bowling Green State University. Our class will debunk all hot shop myths, rumors, and mysteries. We will boil down each technique and idea to the bare bones and reveal the truth about the secrets of glass and object making. Students will learn to deconstruct objects thru drawing and reassemble pieces and parts thru glass making. We will embrace mistakes in the studio and use them as a catapult to exponentially increase technical prowess. We will use intuition and repetition to master the logic and physics of glass making. Students will learn how to be inspired by everyday objects and to illustrate their personal lives in glass. Daily discussions will include subjects such as glass, the significance of pi, the construction of the Egyptian pyramids, and the price of cheese. There will be daily demonstrations, local and interplanetary visiting artists, slide shows, net surfing, and trail riding.
