Brian Engel studied glass at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. This course will be an introduction into the world of possibilities of flat glass. Using Bullseye sheet glass, frits, powders and stringers, students will learn the basics of cutting and assembling fusible material to create designs and patterns. Students will create both basic and technically challenging works from slumped bowls and plates to wall hangings with emphasis placed on color theory, design and balance. Slide shows and discussions will uncover the potential students have as they progress in the medium. In addition, we will cover the importance of annealing, understanding kiln theory, and writing specific firing schedules. This course is open to artists of all mediums, so bring your sketchbooks and let’s cut some glass!!
