André Gutgesell works in the famous glass village of Lauscha, Germany where he operates his own studio. This course will cover special techniques for working with soft glass (soda lime) to address fundamental questions of advanced design. We begin with instruction in the peculiarities of working with soft glass, especially working with tubing. Special techniques for building up surface decorations and completing vessels will follow. Students will gain insight into fundamental questions of design by studying the "Bauhaus" point of view and creating their own design work. During the class, students will improve their abilities greatly and focus on both technical and aesthetic issues.
