Jacqueline Mendelson

Introduction to Glass in the Function of Lighting

July 21 - 25
Level: Intermediate
Hot Shop

Jacqueline MendelsonJacqueline Mendelson has been producing blown glass lighting pieces throughout her 18-year career as a professional glass artist. This one-week intensive class will include lectures (and slide shows) on glass’ possible roles in lighting; examples of lighting designs old and new; demonstrations in the hot and cold shop and discussions on lighting parts, suppliers and basic wiring. Students will be challenged to produce their own lighting fixture. Students should be prepared to draw, blow glass and do their own cold work, assembly and wiring. The focus of lighting (fixture) design with glass as the main element utilizes the natural translucency and wide range of color. Glass has the ability to illuminate more than other materials.
