Jill Reynolds

What's the Big Idea? Conceptual Flameworking

Dates: July 7 - 11
Level: Intermediate
Flame Shop

Jill ReynoldsJill Reynolds was an Artist in Residence at PGC in 2003, and the recipient of the 2002 Corning Museum of Glass Rakow Commission. If you’ve heard of flameworking at all, it’s most likely you know it as a technique for making beads and small sculptural objects. This class will explore the potential of flameworking for creating large-scale sculptures, installations, and conceptually-based work. Students will use the basic flameworking skills of fusing and blowing to make sculptural elements for mixed-media work and for larger works composed of multiple parts. The focus will be on using clear borosilicate glass, but there will also be demonstrations on boro color and soft glass. In addition there will be drawing exercises, slide shows and if time allows, a group installation project. This class is designed primarily for working artists who want to try a new technique, and flameworkers who want to focus on developing their ideas.
