Hot Shop
Ross Richmond has studied and worked at both the Penland School of Crafts and the Pilchuck Glass School. Glass has a plasticity and behavior which lends itself to sculpting. This course provides a freedom to explore process and the potential of the material. This is not a traditional glass sculpting class. However, we will be using various torches in the hot shop to create more detailed work. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using a solid or blown form and explore various methods of color application. Drawings will be an important aspect toward visualizing the final piece. Sketchbooks are mandatory. Class discussions and demonstrations will take place to help realize the potential of the material.
