Michael Schunke

Grassroots Goblet Making (Nowhere to Hide)

June 2 - 6
Level: Advanced
Hot Shop

Michael SchunkeMichael Schunke's work is in the permanent collections of the Ebeltoft Museum of Glass and the Toyama Museum of Glass. Ever wonder why that goblet you made “just don’t look right?” It’s probably because there’s a requisite element missing from your visual or technical repertoire (but it’s probably both). We are going to discuss and demonstrate why the simplest goblets are often the most beautiful and why simple beauty is so difficult to achieve. Extensive drawing and hot shop repetition will be major parts of your experience in this class (there are no shortcuts.) The basics will be the focus in the hot shop, in our sketchbooks and in our minds. Realizing our weaknesses and then having the fortitude to work on them is how we will achieve real change and move forward (and it will actually be fun, really.) Please expect healthy discussion and lively demos, but please do not expect to leave with a plethora of goblets.
