Cold Shop

Our Cold Shop features double the equipment in 770 sq. ft. including:

  • Two 24" Sommer and Maca flat grinding machines
  • One 36" Steinert grinding machine
  • One Covington 30" cut off machine
  • One 52" w x 28" l recirculating sandblasting machine
  • One Steinert double Spindle polishing machine
  • Two Sommer and Maca belt sanders
  • Two PNP cutting lathes
  • One Vibrolap

Cold Shop Rental:

  • Standard Rental $10/hour (minimum ½ hour rental)
  • Plus Rental $15/hour (minimum ½ hour rental)

Standard Rental includes use of lap grinders, belt sanders, pumice wheels, the cerium oxide felt polishing wheel, and grit or pads for hand grinding.

Plus Rental includes the use of Standard Rental equipment plus the use of diamond saws, engraving/punty grinding lathes, handheld air grinders and diamond bits, and the sandblaster.

Rental Rates

All studios at PGC are available to rent. Time must be booked at least one day in advance and you must be a PGC member. Call 412.365.2145 ext. 204 for more information and to schedule time.

Open Studio

Pittsburgh Glass Center offers open studio time at a discounted rate for students currently enrolled in a class or anyone who has taken a class within the last year. The price varies from studio to studio and includes all tool rentals. In addition, a technician is on duty to answer questions.

Fridays from 10am — 2pm are generally the times set aside for open studio in the hot, flame and warm shops. The cold shop is available for open studio on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Time must be scheduled in advance.
