Hot Shop

One of the top facilities in the world, our 2,560 sq. ft. Hot Shop features:

• Two — 1,000 lb. furnaces running 24x7
• Seven — Glory holes all with pneumatic doors ranging in diameter from 17" to 23"
• One — Glory hole 29" x 60" long, barn doors
• All eight benches are equipped with compressed air, Nortel multi mix oxy-natural gas hand torches and propane Exact torches
• The shop has a portable garage to accommodate any bench
• The shop also provides a full set of hand tools, pipes and punties for students at each bench

Glory Hole Rental:

• Small Glory Hole 13"
  $37/hour (2 hour minimum)*
• Medium Glory Hole 19"
  $40/hour (2 hour minimum)*
• Large Glory Hole 29"
  $75/hour (4 hour minimum)*

Discounted Day Rate $30/hour small glory hole
Day rate applies on Monday—Friday from 10am to 5pm

*Weekly and extended rental discounts are available.

Rental includes glory hole and one standard annealing oven per six hour period. For rates on additional items (tools, torches, blocks, garage and large annealing ovens) feel free to contact PGC at 412.365.2145 ext. 204.

Open Studio

Pittsburgh Glass Center offers open studio time at a discounted rate for students currently enrolled in a class or anyone who has taken a class within the last year. The price varies from studio to studio and includes all tool rentals. In addition, a technician is on duty to answer questions.

Fridays from 10am — 2pm are generally the times set aside for open studio in the hot, flame and warm shops. The cold shop is available for open studio on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Time must be scheduled in advance.
