Two Opening Receptions
Friday, March 2 from 6-9pm
Thursday, March 15 from 5-9pm Meet the Artist
Join us for the opening of our newest exhibition "Sharif Bey: Dialogs in Clay and Glass." Sharif Bey’s work cross-references notions of power, ornamentation, and natural history with objects and surfaces associated with traditional African jewelry. He uses his work to explore alternative ways of paying respect to tradition, function, adornment, and ceremony. His exhibition showcases his large-scale ceramic necklace wall hangings and a series of necklace forms made from large glass beads.
Funding for this exhibition at Pittsburgh Glass Center was provided by the Investing in Professional Artists Grants Program and the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh Program, partnerships of The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.
Opening receptions feature glassblowing demonstrations and are free and open to the public.
