Students in this class will experiment with methods to create three-dimensional sculptures from the kilns. This class will teach direct manipulation of fused glass bodies at temperature to exploit both the additive nature of the fusing process, and the malleability of the glass at a range of intermediate temperatures. We will investigate a variety of strategies for producing complex forms, including slab building, molding, inflating and pulling and pushing. We will also look at producing customizable kiln furniture to re-form fused work within the kiln, and at ways of producing raw materials, or blanks for kiln processes. Students should be prepared to be flexible, creative, and think on their feet.
