Instructor: Pavel Novak
Using solid blocks of glass you will experiment with many aspects of coldworking: cutting with the diamond saw, grinding with silicon carbide grit, diamond wheels, polishing wheels as well as the use of horizontal mill wheels and vertical lathes. You also will learn the Hextal lamination process to join glass elements as well as other bonding techniques such as UV glue. Pavel will give several demonstrations of cutting, gluing, sandblasting, and also grinding optical glass in various sizes from large-scale sculpture to very small scale for jewelry. The main focus will be how to mix color pigments with Hextal glue to create color laminations. You may want to have a body of work or concepts that you wish to evolve or explore.
