Instructor: Cedric Mitchell
This is an introductory/beginner level class for you to sharpen your focus and skill set on the road towards mastery. We will cover the fundamentals of glass such as gathering technique, heat management, and the manipulation of the material. You will learn to be proactive in your approach as we make spheres, cylinders, and cones. Create your relationship with glass and transform a simple bubble into compound shapes by experimenting with forms and taking notes on our observations. Expanding your knowledge learned from creating geometric/compound shapes, we will sketch and design new ideas. Drawing will be required. Drafting skills are not mandatory. This class is geared towards strengthening muscle memory through focused deliberate practice to move from the comfort zone to the “Sweet Spot”. At the end of this class you will have a better understanding of glass and how to use less effort to reach a desired result. This class is open to those who are new to glass or with experience in the hot shop.
