Well-known glass artist Therman Statom, based in Omaha, NE, returned to Pittsburgh this summer for another residency at Pittsburgh Glass Center. In addition to creating new work for this exhibition, he is worked with community members and neighborhood children to lay the foundation for a glass mural along Penn Avenue.
Statom was in Pittsburgh for a residency in 2007 during Pittsburgh’s city-wide Year of Glass celebration. During that time, he held workshops with local children. Together they constructed a large glass house in the lobby of the Fifth Avenue Place building downtown Pittsburgh.
Although designs are still in the development stage, Statom says to expect a lot of color. Completion of the mural is expected in late 2016.
