Did you know that there’s glass in our past? Pittsburgh may be known for steel and iron, but its glass legacy is equally rich. For over a century, Pittsburgh was the heart of glass production in the US and could easily have been known as the “Glass City.”
Join us for Art on Fire, a fun party and glass auction to benefit Pittsburgh Glass Center, as we celebrate our new glass community in one of Pittsburgh’s most historic spaces.
This year the Art on Fire Celebration & Auction is hosted by Coterie Company located downtown in the penthouse of the Frick Building, Henry Clay Frick’s personal office, meeting place and social club, on Friday September 15. There will be a wealth of food and drink, amazing glass art and outstanding views from the outdoor terrace. We cannot think of a better place to celebrate and extend our region’s proud glass legacy.
It’s fitting that this year’s honorary artist is Richard Royal. He’s a distinguished American artist from the Northwest who has been working with glass for more than 30 years. He calls himself a builder because he assembles solid and blown glass elements to construct his art. He’s known for pushing the limits of large scale blown glass sculpture. The piece he donates to the auction will bring this stately space back to life in grand style!
