Nick Mount was among the first generation of artists to be introduced to glass in Australia in the early 70s. He and his partner, Pauline, went on to establish Victoria’s first private hot glass studio and subsequently developed an internationally renowned arts practice that continues to reach new levels of technical and artistic achievement today.
Nick’s longevity as a leading glass artist and designer is a testament to his virtuosity with the medium and intuitive ability to let it speak for itself. Founded in the historic and cultural traditions of the Venetians, inspired by the collaborative nature of studio glass and cultivated by the local and international glass community, Nick’s work tells a uniquely Australian story. It is a story of partnership and persistence, industry and innovation, experimentation and growth. And it is a legacy that we are proud to honor as we recognize Nick Mount as our Honorary Artist for Art on Fire 2025.

Woody Fruits with Copper Stems by 2025 Honorary Artist Nick Mount
In the traditions of the studio glass movement, Nick is an advocate for communal training and production. He has a reputation for being a generous mentor and regularly collaborates with a team of highly skilled glass blowers. In a career spanning almost 50 years, Nick has made a significant contribution to the development of studio glass as an artistic medium in Australia and is celebrated as a master of his craft.
Nick has been a teacher and friend of PGC for over 20 years. He first came to teach at Pittsburgh Glass Center in the summer of 2005 and has returned to share his knowledge many times. He presented a major retrospective exhibition at PGC in 2012 called “10 Years of Bottles and Bobs: A Survey” which illustrated the dominant theme and aesthetic characteristics of his work from 2002 to 2012 and traced the evolution of his “Scent Bottles” and “Plumb Bobs.”

Nick was here for Art on Fire in 2016 to support and celebrate his close friend and mentor Richard Marquis.
We’re thrilled to welcome him back in September for Art on Fire 2025. He has generously donated his piece, Woody Fruits with Copper Stems, as the signature live auction piece.
You can see this piece and over 125 more at PGC in the Art on Fire Preview exhibition opening August 18 in The Hodge Gallery.
