Artist Talk with Sukayna El Hani

3/26/2026 | 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Sukayna El Hani Join us for a free lecture with artist-in-residence Sukayna El Hani, whose work inspired by the intricate patterns and forms found in Art Nouveau and Moroccan art and architecture.

For this residency, she is focused on making a new piece named Grandma, honoring her grandmother on my mother’s side. Drawing inspiration from 18th century Jasperware, she plans to create a large vase with an opaque peach-pink color and decorated with bit work and handles. It will then be painted with a core memory of her with her grandma.

Sukayna received her BFA in Craft and Material Studies (2019) from Virginia Commonwealth University and interned at the Chrysler Glass Studio and Starworks Glass Studio (2020). She worked as a glass blowing instructor at Corradetti Glass Studio in Baltimore, MD (2021) then moved to Asbury Park, NJ to work at Hot Sand Glass Studio where she became assistant hot shop manager (2021-2024). Currently, she is volunteering as a glass blowing instructor and assistant technician at L’institut Spécialisé des Arts Traditionnels des Meknes, the very first educational glass center of Morocco.

Sukayna completed her first artist residency, Better Together, at Pilchuck Glass School in May of 2024 and was a visiting artist demonstrator at Wheaton Arts Center in June of 2024. Sukayna has also been presented in several galleries, such as the Group Exhibition, Glass Metamorphosis, Parlor Gallery (2024) Chrysler Exhibition, Norfolk International Airport (2023), Group Exhibition, 180 Days, Neil Britton Gallery (2020), Glass Art Society Online Student Exhibition (2019), and Virginia Glass Guild Members Exhibition (2018).
