Jennifer Saitz is a Pittsburgh area native. She has always loved creating art, although it has been a meandering route to working as an artist. When she was 10, she decided she wanted to be a marine biologist, a somewhat ambitious goal considering she was living in landlocked Pittsburgh. She achieved that goal by earning a master’s degree from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. She then moved to Southern California and ran her own marine biology business while volunteering and rescuing sea lions off the beach. She eventually returned to Pittsburgh and spent 10 years working as a kindergarten teacher. She began taking night classes at the Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) while still working as a teacher. Eventually, she decided to focus on just glass blowing and took a position at PGC. She has been with PGC since 2022, taking classes and assisting the public in making their own glass art. Her current favorite things to forge in the hot shop are jellyfish floating in glass.
